Almost everyone on this planet wants to become successful, there is no doubt about it. You can’t blame people for wanting this. Success in wealth can take you places you’ve always dreamed of going and buy you things you always wished for. Success in contribution allows you to feel the joy and happiness in others feeling fulfilled. Success in spirituality allows one to explore areas of their mind that bring them closer to enlightenment. Since there are several different areas of success that people want to indulge in, it’s no surprise they’re willing to do whatever it takes to get it.Do you want to know what the secret to my success is? I talk to people every single day and persuade them to do business with me. Yes, to be successful you have to talk people! No you can’t just sit on your computer all day confined in your room. I’m almost always have interaction with other people every single day. Whether I’m meeting potential business partners for lunch to pitching my new idea to a VC, I’m always selling myself. I truly believe that your communication is the key to your success. A friend of mine, AJ Kumar who blogs on Persuasive.net, a personal development blog, writes amazing articles a few times a week on how you can powerfully change the way you communicate. When I met AJ, we both almost instantly realized that way shared the same philosophy. AJ has finally released his highly anticipated book: 7 Day Persuasive Communication which he sent over to me a few days ago. It’s a short read, very informative, and teaches you the core skills necessary to become a powerful communicator. The top 10 reasons you should learn persuasive communication are:

A person can double their income from $35,000 a year to $75,000

Obtain undivided attention with people you communicate with

Convince investors to give you $$$$Money$$$$ for your start-up company

Go from being laid off to successfully employed within a few interviews

Sell your product or service to someone right now to put cash in your pocket

Create a powerful network of millionaires and billionaires

Acquire that self confidence you have been searching for

Bring more readers to your website or blog

Sway your website visitors to stay longer on your site to allow the maximum conversion rate

Become an expert negotiator to find the best deals possible

For any entrepreneur, this book is definitely a must read and should be implemented right away. I like the way AJ incorporates assignments that easily integrate in your everyday life so you don’t have to go out of your way to learn. For a person who can barley find time to breathe sometimes, this is perfect.

The cost of the eBook is less than $20 bucks so it nothing that will dent your wallet. If you, like me, considering your communication skills to be your “ammo”, then this is something you should get right away. With the technology, information, and accessibility available to everyone on this planet, it’s difficult to become successful. It seems as if everyone can do what you do and many times at a lower rate. The one thing that can separate you from everyone else is your unique ability to communicate. Instead of placing all your focus on small things like making your websites look pretty, invest in your communication skills and network your way to a successful future.

The following post is a counterpoint to the Outspoken Media post titled Would I Recognize Your Blog In A Dark Alley, and exists to offer an alternative path to land of unicorns and rainbows.

First off theres nothing wrong with running a community driven website or blog, in fact in many cases it can be an excellent and very successful path to choose. That said its not the only choice, not the right choice for everyone and maybe not the right choice for you, and its important you know your options. The direct opposite of a blog which fosters a sense of community is a thought leadership blog.Leaders dont seek your approval, then dont want to make you feel warm and comfortable, like youre laying on the floor in front of firepalce with a comfy blanky surrounded by puppies, and they dont lead by consensus. Leaders have vision, vision to do their own thing, speak their own mind, and arent afraid to go against the grain and be politically incorrect. Real leaders share their vision, hope that you agree, follow their lead, and join their tribe. Leaders with vision arent afraid to challenge and push you outside of your comfort zone.

For example lets look at this video originally shared by Seth Godin, be sure to stick it out to the one minute mark

Click here to view the embedded video.

Whats the lesson guy #1 isnt seeking approval from the crowd, hes doing his own thing, leading a movement (its a silly movement but a movement none the less). However notice guy #2 hes actively seeking approval, trying to convert his friends. He helps guy #1, but without guy #1 leading the path there is no guy #2 or guy #3.

Do you think people like Jason Calacanis or Mark Cuban run blogs with a sense of community spirit or do they blog with a sense of leadership?

Now Im not niave enough to believe that thought leadership blogs are better than community blogs. Nor am I foolish enough to believe they are the right choice for everyone, but they are an option. What a blog owner or blogging team needs to do is define the goals they have for their blog, is it be a part of the community, or is it be seen as a leader in the space. Both have value, but are in many ways mutually exclusive, and its nearly impossible to do both well at the same time.

Yesterday Twitter sneakily unveiled a new user interface for both the followers and following. While I personally believe that their efforts could have been better spent on stabilizing their servers and working out those infamous overcapacity issues, the change is a good one.First of all, lets go over the changes that they made. On your list of Followers and those that you are Following, Twitter used to display the persons avatar and username, and the option to follow. Little other identifiable information was presented, so if you wanted to find out more about the person youd have to click on their name and check out their page.

Now, when you view Followers or Following, youre presented with a lot more information, almost eliminating the need to click over to the persons page to get the full scoop on them. Now youll see not only their avatar and username, but also their real name, latest tweet and location. On the righthand side where the Follow button used to be, theres now a new button. Click on it and youre presented with several action options: @ Mention xxxx, Direct Message xxxx, Follow xxxx, and Unfollow xxxx. So its nice in that theres a lot more information available in one place and theres less clicking involved.

Heres a quick peek at my Followers page so you can see the changes (click to view full size):

Whats this mean for search engine optimization? Well, we all know by now that SEO is far more than just link building. Its also a lot of marketing, and if youre on Twitter its an excellent way to market your website. I was a little late in the game getting my site involved with Twitter, but not too late, and it is definitely paying off in terms of gaining new traffic, new loyal readers, new readers, and even some advertisers. It also helps us to connect with our readers in a way thats just not possible through comment forms on our site alone. This UI update really helps to save time in checking out potential followers, or people you want to follow, especially if youre constantly bombarded with new followers or manually hunt for new ones to follow yourself.

So while U.S. Anti-Trust Regulators are planning to investigate Googles deal with book publishers to settle copyright issues amounting to $125m, Google continues to make Book Search a better and worthwhile service for their users. If youve been following this issue which has been dragging on since perhaps the day Google Book Searchs inception, youd remember that Google has received so many criticisms because of this project. And so it is not surprising that Google would not bother the investigation that much.

So, anyway its something that is yet to happen so we might as well talk about the new feature of Google Book Search that we mentioned.

If you would recall, during the early part of May Google introduced searching inside books wherein the context of search results can be viewed, sorted by relevancy as well as flipped through while users are viewing books.

The new feature adds a cool feature via a scrollbar that appears when users search inside a book. Hints will be displayed if you hover on the scrollbar located at the right side of the search results page. These hints will enable you to preview where in the book the search term is located. You can then click on this annotation go to that part of the book.

And basically thats it. Just a simple enhancement and yet a useful one. Now its time to think about the anti-trust case.
